Airtel at last came out with
simplified data plan wherein they will offer new user unlimited 4G data access
for 90 days. If one is existing user then user can recharge 1495 INR pack to
avail the plan whereas for new users the plan is available for 1494.
The beauty of plan is that one
can keep the data on all the time for 90 days and should not be worried for
exhaustion of data pack. It will help Airtel user to access unlimited Games,
Video and Movies and can download it from different apps without thinking about
data consumption. Airtel user generate Data ARPU of $2.3 and with current plan
they are trying to mitigate the migration
of post paid high networth userbase.
At the same time, the offer is
going to attract youngster using data heavily. Reliance Jio managed to acquire
5 Mn plus user base but struggling on QoS.
Lots of negative publicity due to
call failure impacted Reliance Jio image. It will be interesting to see how
Reliance Jio and other players reacts to it.
One thing is for sure that the
Oct to Dec 2016 of Airtel will have high Data ARPU. Even though only 25% of the existing data
user adopt to new plan then also Airtel will hit the goal post of $2,3 Data
ARPU but if the percentage of adoption increases then it will have positive
impact on Airtel result.
I call the move very sensible
where the winner is both the user and service providers.
This offer will help Airtel to retain their user who were thinking to switch over Reliance JIO due to their luring data plan.
