The stagnation in Chinese Smartphone fames well as ambitious
Chinese brand entered India with full force without focusing on profitability
for time being.
The Indian device buyers approach is changing also and they
are more interested for high end devices available at affordable price point.
The changing PoS level feedback indicates that device buyers
are buying Smartphone ranging between 10k to 20k. The brands like Gionee, Letv,
Oppo, Vivo, flooded the market with marketing blitz whereas Xiaomi, HTC are
well known for their robust and affordable price point. The segment used to be
dominated by Samsung devices but the recent trouble with Samsung device will
give opportunities to these companies to grab market share from Samsung.
The change in buying trend where many low end device buyers
are replacing their device with mid range devices gives an opportunity for new
and established player.
For example, Letv announced that they sold 200k device
during Diwali sale on e-commerce portal clearly indicate the acceptance if
brand.
It will be interesting to see Q4 FY17 Smartphone shipment
and the inclusion of some of the listed players in top 10 brands in India
